Smolder is a text-adventure RPG with turn-based combat. Beware of moves that pierce your guard, shake equipment loose, and inflict ailments. Learn the difference between baits and openings. The wilds are relentless; so are you.

About:

Smolder draws from classic interactive fiction like Zork and Sekiro's telegraph system. I'm a fan of RPG series like Dragon Quest and SMT, but always wondered what deterministic combat would look like in a turn-based game. Smolder was the answer to that question.


V1.0.1 Update:

Combat and balance
  • You can now trade damage when enemies dive from sky to ground state. Parity with being able to attack while they ascend.
  • Overheat threshold reduced from 4 to 3, and moves that inflicted 2 heat now inflict 1.
  • Phoenix now has ground radiance move in addition to sky radiance.
  • Only Phoenix radiance and fireball inflict burn now. All other Phoenix attacks inflict bleed only.
Items and Shop
  • Long sword now stocked in the market from the start.
  • Renamed night-sight draught to night-sight elixir. Costs 30 Gil instead of 10, and only wares off if you rest.
  • Tithe changed from 1 Gil to 5 Gil.
  • Inn rest changed from 5 Gil to 2 Gil.
Dialogue and polish
  • Quest Gil rewards now show the amount you receive right in the line (mill payout, etc.).
  • Phoenix intro reworded, and a few one-off NPC remarks no longer repeat themselves.
